Week 2 blog post!
This week we talked about parts of seeds. On the far right and left you can see the seed coat, the small tab hanging from the seed is called the embryo, and the smooth part of the seed itself is called the cotyledon which provides food for the embryo. I enjoyed being able to dissect a seed, it helped me have the ability to see the characteristics of a seed in person compared to only seeing a video. I have dissected a seed in elementary school before, but this was a really good refresher on the parts of seeds since it has been so long.
In the image, we have a poster we made in class discussing the characters of living things. The characteristics of living things are, being made of cells, capable of reproduction, having a genetic code (DNA), growing and changing, responding to external stimuli, evolving, maintains homeostasis, and lastly requiring energy. I really enjoyed making this poster because I was able to illustrate examples of all the living thing requirements. I feel making posters like this that involve coloring and creativity is a really good activity to have in my future classroom.
Hi Monet! I like how you identified the specific parts of the seeds, it sounds like you know it well! I love how you thought about incorporating posters into your own classroom, I hope to do this as well in my future classroom. It can be such a good learning tool for the students during a unit!
ReplyDeleteHey Monet! I totally agree with you on how involving coloring and creativity is important in our future classrooms. It is important to teach our students but doing it in fun and creative ways can make the lesson stick out to our students.
ReplyDeleteHi Monet!
